Policy on giving cash incentives for merit scholars and student leaders


Rationale

Republic Act No. 109301, known as the “Universal Access for Quality Tertiary Education Act of 2017”, specifically mandating the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education popularly known as the UniFAST, the agency created under RA 10687 to implement all the identified programs stated in RA No. 10931. Students of SUCs are now enjoying free tuition fees which started the First Semester, SY 2017-2018 and also included free miscellaneous fees starting School Year, 2018-2019.

There is also an existing policy of the University providing for free tuition fee and/or miscellaneous fees to students with meritorious scholastic performance or by virtue of their impressive talents and skills that contribute to the academic community.

It is now a standing policy of the university that those merit scholars with entitlements of free tuition and/or miscellaneous fees shall be given the cash incentives accrued to them as per assessment of their fees.


Objectives

The objectives of the policy are the following:

1. Provide cash incentives to students with meritorious scholastic performance based on their average grade or General Weighted Average (GWA).

2. Provide cash incentives to students whose merits are based on their innate talents and skills.


Purpose:

The document defines the policies and guidelines of the Scholarship Unit in implementing several scholarship programs offered by the University to its deserving students.


Policy:

The Isabela State University Scholarship Unit offers merit scholarship programs to its deserving students in accordance with the policies and guidelines of the University.


Definition of Terms

  • Scholar – A holder of scholarship
  • Scholarship – A grant-in-aid to a student as by a college or foundation

DETAILS OF MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (University Sponsored)

ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP (with highest honor)

  • given to entering freshmen who graduated with highest honors with an average grade of 98 to 100% from public or private school. It is availed for one semester only.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP (University Scholar)

  • given to a student who obtained a GWA of at least 1.50 to 1.00 at the end of a regular term and who carries at least 15 academic load for the term.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP (College Scholar)

  • given to a student who obtained a GWA of at least 1.75 to 1.51 at the end of a regular term and who carries at least 15 academic load of the term.

ASSISTANCE TO ATHLETES

is awarded to a athletes who:

  • carry a minimum academic load of 15 units;
  • have not incurred a failing or incomplete grade; and
  • have participated in or won in the University/Campus sports competition during the preceding semester and have been qualified to represent the University in higher athletic competitions.

STUDENT PUBLICATION SCHOLARSHIP

  • awarded to the campus student publication staff who have a minimum academic load of 15 units / semester and have no failing or incomplete grade in the preceding semester.

STUDENT LEADERS AND ROTC OFFICERS

  • awarded to the Campus SSC, SBO President, ROTC Officers who have a minimum academic load of 15 units / semester and have no failing or incomplete grade on the preceding semester.

SOCIO-CULTURAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • awarded to students who are members of the socio-cultural group and who have won in the regional/national competitions, who carry a minimum academic load of 15 units and have no failing or incomplete grades during the preceding semester.

FACULTY EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE (FEA) PROGRAM

  • given to a permanent/regular employee of Isabela State University for 75% discount from basic tuition fees.
