Isabela State University- Echague (ISUE) further solidified its excellence in the provincial stage as its representatives in the 27th Philippine Statistics Quiz garnered the top and 5th spots, October 26.

Heinrich Emmanuel Galabay grabbed the championship and bested the 20 other contestants from the various Higher Educational Institutions of Isabela while Justine Kim Fernandez placed 4th runner up.

Galabay and Fernandez will also be two of the five representatives of Isabela Province in the regional quiz that will transpire on the 10th of November.

Galabay, a graduate of the Senior High School program of the campus and now Bachelor of Science in Chemistry freshman, counts this victory as a significant accomplishment because he used to dislike dealing with numbers.

โ€œThis is a pretty big deal for me, considering I used to lowkey hate dealing with numbers. I think itโ€™s a solid reminder to keep taking intellectual risks and embracing discomfort. Growth mindset ba,โ€ he said in an interview.

He also shared about having a very little amount of preparation and being clueless in the competitionโ€™s nature prior to coming in the competition.

โ€œWe only had a day to prepare and we were clueless about the nature of the quiz questions. But it turns out listening to my coach and SHS math teachers when paid off,โ€ Galabay added.

Meanwhile, Stephanie Lim of the Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Mathematics was also among the representatives of ISUE with Erwin G. Corpuz serving as their coach.

Organized by the Philippine Statistics Authority through the Isabela Provincial Statistics Office, the competition was held at Piazza Zicarelli Hotel in the City of Ilagan.

This victory reaffirms ISUEโ€™s continuous attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly on Goal 04 which is Quality Education.
